Blog Tour: The Future of Wales, Rhys Thomas

Writer's picture: bobsandbooksbobsandbooks

With thanks to Melville House, I am thrilled to be on this tour.

Oh! What's occurring?

Wales is a nation of contradictions. It boasts incredible natural resources and crushing poverty; fierce patriotism and a stark north/south divide; an energy surplus, and some of the highest bills in the UK. Proud Welshman Rhys Thomas affectionately probes his home country– via Welsh geography, food, culture, politics and sport – to build a mosaic-like image of how Wales looks today – and how it might look in the future

Bobs and Books review:

A book that starts by talking about Dylan Thomas is always going to be onto a winner with me. I found this author's insight fascinating and found myself nodding and smiling frequently.

Interesting to see that the author doesn't live in Wales currently, but clearly keeps an eye on his country as his views were current, relevant, on top and on point. As an Cornish woman in Wales, I was interested in this viewpoint.

This is packed with passion, humour, a little swearing (why not), a bit of Welsh (no complaints) and a brilliant nickname. I felt I was going to know the author just as much as the country which was warm, endearing and added an extra something to this read.

This is a pocket sized pleasurable read- my only moan - I was left wanting more!

About the author:

Rhys Thomas is a freelance journalist and strategist from Laugharne, Wales. His work has appeared in VICE, Time Out, The Face, the Guardian, GQ, The Times, Dazed, The Independent and much more. This is his first book.

Out now.
