Blog Tour: Sentenced, Victoria Oak & Andrew Hawke

I am so super excited to be kicking off this blog tour! With thanks to Literally PR for a gifted copy of this book.

Sentenced- in a few sentences: A true story following the remarkable, long-lasting and unlikely friendship that develops between two strangers- a London housewife bringing up four children and a British prisoner incarcerated in Thailand.

As they begin to exchange letters, each tells a personal story of being sentenced= Vicky in a desperate and loveless marriage; Andy within the walls of one of the world's most notorious prisons.

What unfolds is a moving tale of entrapment and freedom, love and friendship, and the human capacity to withstand and overcome immense pain and suffering in the face of adversity.. with the right people on your side.

Bobs and Books honest review:

This was a brand new style of writing for me with a dual narration, particularly for a memoir. This story caught my attention when reading the blurb due it sounding so unique and original. It is definitely both those things. Both narrators I feel were very matter of fact and very true to themselves when writing their sections, and on occasions it makes it all the more shocking to read. You get a real insight into their relationship with copies of their letters sent, and its fascinating to watch the tone/mood of the letters change on both sides. Sometimes they are both accepting of their situation and other times admit the confinement of the life they live in. What struck me more than anything is the timescales within the book. This isn't a few months of chit chat, its deep, meaningful, and sometimes even years go by before they communicate again. Yet they pick up where they left off. Photos in the book enhance the story too. An equally interesting read on both sides of the house (towards the end quite literally!)
